Her brother began to move towards（朝；向）/təˈwɔːdz/ the dog, but（但是）/bʌt/ it raised its head and made an（一个）/ən/ angry（愤怒的）/ˈæŋɡri/ sound（声音）/saʊnd/. “Stop here（这里）/hɪə/. An injured（受伤的）/ˈɪndʒəd/ dog may（可能）/meɪ/ be afraid of（害怕）/bi əˈfreɪd əv/ people and may bite（咬）/baɪt/. We should（应该）/ʃʊd/ stay away from（远离）/steɪ əˈweɪ frɒm/ it and call for help（呼救；请求帮助）/kɔːl fɔː help/.” They stood（站立）/stʊd/ several metres（米）/ˈmiːtəz/ away and asked an adult（成年人）/ˈædʌlt/ in the park to phone the local animal（动物）/ˈænɪml/ rescue（救助）/ˈreskjuː/ service（机构；服务）/ˈsɜːvɪs/. The collar（项圈）/ˈkɒlə/ showed that the dog was probably（可能；大概）/ˈprɒbəbli/ a lost pet（宠物）/pet/.

The rescue worker asked Eva to describe the dog's size（大小）/saɪz/, colour, wound（伤口）/wuːnd/, and exact（准确的）/ɪɡˈzækt/ position（位置）/pəˈzɪʃn/. Eva answered each question and stayed where（……的地方；哪里）/weə/ the worker could see her. She（她）/ʃiː/ did not（不；没有）/nɒt/ touch（触摸）/tʌtʃ/ or feed（喂食）/fiːd/ the dog, and she did not try to move it. Her brother worried about the traffic（交通；车辆）/ˈtræfɪk/, so the adult stood near the path and warned（提醒；警告）/wɔːnd/ bicycle riders（骑车人）/ˈraɪdəz/ to slow down（向下；减慢）/daʊn/.

A rescue van（厢式车）/væn/ arrived fifteen minutes later. Two trained（训练）/treɪnd/ workers brought a crate（运输笼箱）/kreɪt/, a blanket（毯子）/ˈblæŋkɪt/, protective（防护的）/prəˈtektɪv/ gloves（手套）/ɡlʌvz/, and a first-aid（急救的）/ˌfɜːst ˈeɪd/ kit（成套工具）/kɪt/. They approached（靠近）/əˈprəʊtʃt/ quietly（安静地）/ˈkwaɪətli/ and dealt with（处理）/delt wɪð/ the injury. One worker covered the dog with the blanket while the other（另一个）/ˈʌðə/ checked its leg. The dog was placed in the crate.

The workers found（发现；找到）/faʊnd/ an owner（主人；失主）/ˈəʊnə/ number on the collar. They said the dog would receive（得到；接受）/rɪˈsiːv/ medical（医疗的）/ˈmedɪkl/ care, and a vet（兽医）/vet/ would treat（治疗）/triːt/ its wound at an animal hospital（医院）/ˈhɒspɪtl/. Eva and her brother watched the van leave. The dog was no longer beside the road, and trained adults were taking it to a safe place.
